I rode up on some of the "Descenders" on the Hwy 56 bike trail in San Diego this Saturday about 11am. I was the old guy on the black and white carbon Douglas bike...hanging on the back wheel of the tall dude on the yellow Fuji. I could not find the descender.org website so drop me an email, perhaps I could join you on some rides. I like to climb but I'm actually much better on the descents like HVR, South Grade, etc

@Noob: You'll also be happy to know that Texas Hill Country and SD are very much like southern Italy - which explains the rather large population of Sicilians in town...

As my Granddaddy used to say... "nothin' better than pie!" Well... maybe a combination of a slice and a century! Sweet ride!

Impressive. It appears you got more out of that ride than pie. My wife and I spent a week in Carlsbad in '04, and I find it interesting to note how similar your area looks to the Texas Hill Country -- the difference being that you have real mountains. And we don't have an ocean. But we have cattle guards.
