Sounds like an great ride and a nice vacation. Since my wife and I started cycling on pretty much any vacation, we have had some great surprises also. Mid-ride (quality) beers make me ride faster (in my mind at least). And yes, the last two German friends I cycled with were pretty darn strong! Congrats.
