Oh man, I hate crashing. It always seems to happen the same way.
Step 1 – You notice something is going awry
I’m zooming down a dirt/gravel fire road, headed for the parking lot at the end of a very fun ride in Penasquitos Canyon. I accelerate downhill and am preparing for the turn at the bottom when my back tire starts to skid out to my right. No problem, I’ve got it under control.
Step 2 – All of a sudden…
How did my back wheel get so far over there? I’m hitting the ground. I’m going pretty fast. Uh oh, this is going to suck.
Step 3 – The slow motion part
I’m now sliding (in slow motion) on my side along a gravel road with no ability to stop. It’s the sliding that gets you, by the way.
Step 4 – Did anyone see me?
I get up nonchalantly and verify that my bike is in working order, my bib shorts are torn and I have gravel stuck in my arm and leg.
Step 5 – Brag and take photos
“Dude! I have this huge rash on my hip, cuts all over my leg and arm, and there’s blood on my shoes. Can you pass me another beer?”

Ooops, sorry to see/hear that.
But as I repeat a little too often …. “it could have been worse”
I am now a little worried as I have been attempting to improve my lame handling skills by following your advice to “Lean into it”
Were you leaning when you fell?
Heal fast!
Hey Will- Ha, I was leaning into it, but it was my back tire that slide so it can’t be related
I am mostly healed by now, just some minor scars from the rash.
