Hold Your Horses!

Photo courtesy stuartajc on Flickr.I was doing my weekly budget today and saw a check had cleared for $250. I didn’t remember the expense so I clicked to view an image of the cleared check…

…and fell COMPLETELY out of my chair. It was the check I wrote to the “Leadville Trail 100” for my entry in this year’s Leadville 100 mountain bike race!

You see, I had given up all hope of racing Leadville this year. Entry in the race is determined by lottery. I had submitted my entry and waited patiently. Acceptance cards (aka, “Yippee!” cards) were mailed out on February 5th and I didn’t get one. The final nail in my Leadville coffin was that my name did not appear on the preliminary entrants list on their website. I’ve actually been waiting for them to mail my check back.

But it wasn’t mailed back, they cashed it! Now what? I’m in Leadville Limbo…

Let me be straight – I was crushed when I thought I didn’t get into Leadville. I’ve been wandering around for the last week trying to figure out what to this year.

And now a ray of hope shines down. With any luck, I will Race Across the Sky.

Sweeeeet! Let’s hope it all works out and that the check being cashed wasn’t just a clerical error! Good luck!

From their website, they have a pretty strict cancelation policy, as in you can’t cancel once your entry is accepted. Sure hope they apply that same policy in reverse!

Me too Scott.

They cashed it. They accepted it. I think you’re in! Yeah!

Hi Kathleen, yes I am in. Can’t believe it!

Congratulations on getting in! That had to be a real roller coaster hoping you’d get in and then think you hadn’t.

Hi Rob, it sure has been a roller coaster. Continues to be one now that it dawns on me how much preparation lies between here and Leadville. Less that 6 months to go!
